PREVIEW for 02/10/08

February 6, 2008

Here’s this week’s preview.  I pray that your Ash Wednesday begins a new season of blessing as you show God that you will not be mastered, except by Him.

I like to listen to sermons on the way to work.  Sometimes, I catch one at lunch, like I did today.  I have my favorites.  I like John MacArthur, of Sun Valley, CA.  I like Dr. J. Vernon McGee of Pasadena, CA, though he’s been with the Lord for a while now.  I like Tom Shrader of East Valley Bible Church in Gilbert, AZ.  There are others I really like.

Most of the time, I like what I hear.  God’s word is good.  It settles my soul. Listening to the radio sort of redeems the 90 minutes I spend every day commuting (30 minutes to work, 60 minutes home).

Once in a while, I hear something that makes me nervous.  Should I sell everything I own and give the money to the poor?  Those days make me dig in and do some research.  Ultimately, that’s good too.

So today, I’m running out to lunch, and Tom Shrader is on (11:30 am to 12:00 pm, 1360 AM KPXQ). He’s talking about Beevis and Butthead.  He’s talking about Victoria Secret. He’s talking about our culture.  He’s saying that we need to be right down in our culture reaching lost souls, but at the same time be careful that we don’t get that culture on us.  A difficult task. He even jokes “If you are allergic to silicone, don’t go to the Fashion Plaza” (Scottsdale, AZ), in a reference to the surgically enhanced population in Arizona’s most affluent city.

Then, he says it.  I’m still scared!

He says “You realize, judgment is for Christians.  The unsaved will die condemned! They don’t need judgment! You and I will have to account for our time as Christians! How are you spending your time? Are you living as if judgment were imminent?”

How are you feeling right about now? Better than I am, I hope.
